The Association for Retarded Citizens of Texas wanted to help people with mental retardation to live independently, outside of state institutions or sheltered workshops. ARC of Texas asked DeLaune and Associates to help them with a state-wide campaign to create more jobs for people with mental retardation. As part of that campaign, DeLaune created a public service announcement that aired statewide as part of efforts to help give people with mental retardation the chance for a lifetime.
